[676] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned neither by seeing (dassana) nor by development (bhāvanā) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon to be abandoned by development.
Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), and having performed the Uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), one relishes and delights in that; with that as object, lust (rāga) arises, restlessness (uddhacca) arises, grief (domanassa) to be abandoned by development arises. Deeds formerly well practiced … Having emerged from jhāna … The eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) … one relishes the aggregates (khandhā) to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development; with that as object, lust to be abandoned by development arises, restlessness arises, grief to be abandoned by development arises.
