[718] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned (pahātabba) neither by seeing (dassana) nor by development (bhāvanā) is a condition for a phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing, by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya): object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
Object-prenascence: One relishes and delights in the eye (cakkhu); on account of that, lust (rāga) to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises, doubt (vicikicchā) arises, grief (domanassa) to be abandoned by seeing arises. …
One relishes and delights in the base (vatthu); on account of that, lust to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view arises, doubt arises, grief to be abandoned by seeing arises.
