[983] A phenomenon (dhamma) whose root is to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development (nevadassanena-nabhāvanāya-pahātabbahetuka) is a condition, by presence condition (atthi-paccaya), for a phenomenon whose root is to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena-pahātabbahetuka) — conascent (sahajāta), prenascent (purejāta).
Conascent: delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā) is a condition, by presence condition, for the associated aggregates (khandhā).
Prenascent: One relishes and delights in the eye … the base (vatthu); with that as object, lust (rāga) whose root is to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises, doubt … grief (domanassa) whose root is to be abandoned by seeing arises. The base is a condition, by presence condition, for the aggregates whose roots are to be abandoned by seeing.
