[717] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development (nevadassanenanabhāvanāyapahātabba) is a condition, by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development:
Object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
Object-prenascence: one contemplates with insight the eye (cakkhu) as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as non-self; the ear … the nose, the tongue, the body, forms, sounds, odours, tastes, tangibles, the base (vatthu) … One sees a form with the divine eye; one hears a sound with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu). The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition, by prenascence condition, for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa); the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana), for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa).
Base-prenascence: the eye base (cakkhāyatana) is a condition, by prenascence condition, for eye-consciousness; the body base (kāyāyatana), for body-consciousness; the base (vatthu), for the aggregates (khandhā) that are to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development.
