[942] A phenomenon (dhamma) with roots to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development (neva-dassanena-na-bhāvanāya-pahātabbahetuka) is a condition, by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya), for a phenomenon with roots to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development — object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
Object-prenascence: One contemplates (vipassati) the eye as impermanent … ; the ear … ; one contemplates the base (vatthu) as impermanent … ; with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), a form … ; with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu) … . The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition, by prenascence condition, for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa); the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana), for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa).
