[302] A phenomenon (dhamma) without thought and without examination (avitakka-avicāra) is a condition, by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya), for a phenomenon with thought and with examination (savitakka-savicāra) and for a phenomenon without thought but with examination only (avitakka-vicāramatta).
Object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta), base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
Object-prenascence: One sees the eye with insight as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as non-self; one relishes it and delights in it. With that as object, aggregates (khandhā) with thought and with examination, and thought (vitakka), arise. The ear … the nose, the tongue, the body, forms, sounds, odours, tastes, tangible objects … one sees the base (vatthu) with insight as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self; one relishes it and delights in it. With that as object, aggregates with thought and with examination, and thought, arise.
Base-prenascence: The base is a condition, by prenascence condition, for the aggregates with thought and with examination and for thought.
