[409] A phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought (avitakka-avicāra dhamma) is a condition for a phenomenon without thought-conception but with discursive thought only (avitakka-vicāramatta dhamma) by presence condition (atthi-paccaya): conascent, prenascent.
Conascent: discursive thought (vicāra) is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) without thought-conception but with discursive thought only by presence condition. At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhikkhaṇa), discursive thought is a condition for the aggregates without thought-conception but with discursive thought only by presence condition. At the moment of rebirth-linking, the base (vatthu) is a condition for the aggregates without thought-conception but with discursive thought only, and for thought-conception (vitakka), by presence condition.
Prenascent: One sees the eye with insight as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as not-self; one relishes it and delights in it. Taking that as object, thought-conception arises. The ear … the nose, the tongue, the body, forms, sounds, odours, tastes, tangible objects … One sees the base with insight as impermanent, as suffering, as not-self; one relishes it and delights in it. Taking that as object, thought-conception arises. The base is a condition for the aggregates without thought-conception but with discursive thought only, and for thought-conception, by presence condition.
