[408] A phenomenon (dhamma) without thought-conception (vitakka) and without discursive thought (vicāra) is a condition for a phenomenon with thought-conception and with discursive thought by presence condition (atthi-paccaya): conascent (sahajāta), prenascent (purejāta).
Conascent: at the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), the base (vatthu) is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) with thought-conception and with discursive thought by presence condition.
Prenascent: one sees with insight the eye as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as not-self; one relishes it and delights in it; taking that as object, lust arises, grief arises. Forms … sounds, odours, tastes, tangible objects … one sees with insight the base as impermanent, as suffering, as not-self … grief arises. The base is a condition for the aggregates with thought-conception and with discursive thought by presence condition.
