[397] A phenomenon (dhamma) without thought-conception (vitakka) and without discursive thought (vicāra) is a condition, by dissociation condition (vippayutta-paccaya), for a phenomenon without thought-conception and with mere discursive thought and for a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought: conascent and prenascent.
Conascent: at the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), the base (vatthu) is a condition, by dissociation condition, for the aggregates (khandhā) without thought-conception and with mere discursive thought, and for discursive thought.
Prenascent: the base is a condition, by dissociation condition, for the aggregates without thought-conception and with mere discursive thought, and for discursive thought.
