[998] A phenomenon (dhamma) whose roots are to be abandoned by development (bhāvanāya pahātabbahetuka) is a condition, by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon whose roots are to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena pahātabbahetuka) and for a phenomenon whose roots are to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development (neva dassanena na bhāvanāya pahātabbahetuka); it is a condition by way of decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya).
