At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), dependent on the aggregates, the base (vatthu) [arises]; dependent on the base, the aggregates [arise]. Dependent on the water element (āpo-dhātu), non-impingent mind-originated form and kamma-produced form (kaṭattā-rūpa), [i.e.,] derived form (upādā-rūpa), [arise]. Dependent on the water element, the femininity faculty (itthindriya) and edible food (kabaḷīkāra āhāra) [arise]; external … nutriment-originated … temperature-originated …
For the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), dependent on the water element, non-impingent kamma-produced form, [i.e.,] derived form, [arises]. Dependent on the aggregates accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā), accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness [arises].
In the non-impingent-rooted [section] (appaṭighamūlaka), the other two questions should also be done; in the combination (ghaṭanā) also, three questions should be done. Having understood [them], the internal and external great elements (mahābhūta) should all be done.
