[420] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is a fetter (saññojana), a phenomenon that is a fetter arises not by root condition (na-hetupaccaya): dependent on the fetter of doubt (vicikicchā-saññojana), the fetter of ignorance (avijjā-saññojana) [arises].
Dependent on a phenomenon that is not a fetter, a phenomenon that is not a fetter arises not by root condition: dependent on one rootless (ahetuka) aggregate that is not a fetter, three aggregates and mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) [arise]; [dependent on] two aggregates … up to the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā).
Dependent on a phenomenon that is not a fetter, a phenomenon that is a fetter arises not by root condition: dependent on the aggregates accompanied by doubt [or] accompanied by restlessness, the fetter of ignorance [arises].
Dependent on a phenomenon that is a fetter and a phenomenon that is not a fetter, a phenomenon that is a fetter arises not by root condition: dependent on the fetter of doubt and the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates, the fetter of ignorance [arises].
