[613] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) associated with hindrances (nīvaraṇa), a phenomenon associated with hindrances arises, not by root condition (na-hetu-paccaya): dependent on the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā) [or] accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), [there arises] the hindrance of ignorance (avijjā). Dependent on a phenomenon dissociated from hindrances, a phenomenon dissociated from hindrances arises, not by root condition: [dependent on] the rootless (ahetuka) [phenomenon] dissociated from hindrances … up to the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā).
