[646] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a hindrance (nīvaraṇa) and associated with hindrances (nīvaraṇa-sampayutta), a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises, not by root condition (na-hetupaccaya):
Namely, dependent on the hindrance of doubt (vicikicchā), the hindrance of ignorance (avijjā) arises; dependent on the hindrance of restlessness (uddhacca), the hindrance of ignorance arises.
Dependent on a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises, not by root condition:
Namely, dependent on the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance arises.
Dependent on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances and on a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises, not by root condition:
Namely, dependent on the hindrance of doubt and the associated aggregates, the hindrance of ignorance arises; dependent on the hindrance of restlessness and the associated aggregates, the hindrance of ignorance arises.
