[644] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a hindrance (nīvaraṇa) and associated with hindrances (nīvaraṇa-sampayutta), a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises by root condition (hetu-paccaya): dependent on the hindrance of sensual desire (kāmacchanda), the hindrance of dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha), the hindrance of restlessness (uddhacca), and the hindrance of ignorance (avijjā) [arise]. The cycle (cakka) [should be formed]; all the hindrances too should be done [in the same way]. Dependent on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but not a hindrance arises by root condition: dependent on the hindrances, the associated aggregates (khandhā) [arise]. Dependent on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances and a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but not a hindrance arise by root condition: dependent on the hindrance of sensual desire, the hindrance of dullness and drowsiness, the hindrance of restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance, and the associated aggregates [arise].
