[677] A phenomenon that is misapprehension (parāmāsa) is a condition for a phenomenon that is misapprehension by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): taking misapprehension as object, misapprehension arises. The roots should be supplied. Taking misapprehension as object, aggregates (khandhā) that are not misapprehension arise. Taking misapprehension as object, misapprehension and the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates arise. A phenomenon that is not misapprehension is a condition for a phenomenon that is not misapprehension by object condition: a gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it; taking that as object, lust (rāga), doubt (vicikicchā), restlessness (uddhacca), and grief (domanassa) arise. What was formerly well practised … Having emerged from jhāna, the jhāna … Noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from the path (magga), review the path, review the fruit (phala), review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for purification (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, for adverting (āvajjana), by object condition. Noble ones (review) abandoned defilements (kilesa) that are not misapprehension … suppressed defilements … formerly … The eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) … one sees with insight the aggregates that are not misapprehension as impermanent, relishes them, delights in them; taking that as object, lust, doubt, restlessness, and grief arise. One sees a form with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), hears a sound with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu); with the knowledge of others' minds (cetopariya-ñāṇa) one knows the mind (citta) of a person possessed of a mind that is not misapprehension. The sphere of infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) (is a condition) for the sphere of infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) for the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana), the form base (rūpāyatana) for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa), the tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa); aggregates that are not misapprehension (are a condition) for the knowledge of the kinds of supernormal power (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of others' minds, for the knowledge of recollection of past abodes (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), for adverting, by object condition. A phenomenon that is not misapprehension is a condition for a phenomenon that is misapprehension by object condition: a gift … virtue … the uposatha observance … one relishes it, delights in it; taking that as object, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises. Formerly … from jhāna … … The eye … the base … one relishes, delights in the aggregates that are not misapprehension; taking that as object, wrong view … A phenomenon that is not misapprehension is a condition for a phenomenon that is misapprehension and for a phenomenon that is not misapprehension by object condition: a gift … virtue … the uposatha observance … one relishes it, delights in it; taking that as object, misapprehension and the associated aggregates arise. Formerly … from jhāna … the eye … the base … one relishes, delights in the aggregates that are not misapprehension; taking that as object, misapprehension and the associated aggregates arise. A phenomenon that is misapprehension and a phenomenon that is not misapprehension are a condition for a phenomenon that is misapprehension by object condition: taking misapprehension and the associated aggregates as object … Three (sections).
