[729] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both misapprehension (parāmāsa) and misapprehended (parāmaṭṭha) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is both misapprehension and misapprehended: three (sections) should be done with "with reference to (ārabbha)"; they are similar to the misapprehension dyad (parāmāsa-duka).
A phenomenon that is misapprehended but not misapprehension is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is misapprehended but not misapprehension: a gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … having performed the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it; with reference to that, lust (rāga), doubt (vicikicchā), restlessness (uddhacca), and grief (domanassa) arise. Formerly … from jhāna … The noble ones review change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), they review cleansing (vodāna); the defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned … the defilements that have been suppressed … formerly … the eye … the base (vatthu) … the aggregates (khandhā) that are misapprehended but not misapprehension, as impermanent … grief arises. One sees a form with the divine eye — all should be done as far as adverting (āvajjana).
A phenomenon that is misapprehended but not misapprehension is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is both misapprehension and misapprehended: a gift … virtue … the uposatha observance … formerly … from jhāna … the eye … the base … one relishes and delights in the aggregates that are misapprehended but not misapprehension; with reference to that, view (diṭṭhi) … .
A phenomenon that is misapprehended but not misapprehension is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is both misapprehension and misapprehended and for a phenomenon that is misapprehended but not misapprehension: a gift … virtue … the uposatha observance … formerly … from jhāna … the eye … the base … one contemplates with insight the aggregates that are misapprehended but not misapprehension as impermanent …, relishes and delights in them; with reference to that, misapprehension and the associated aggregates arise.
In the same way, the other three also should be done with "with reference to." This dyad is similar to the misapprehension dyad. Wherever the supramundane (lokuttara) is not obtained, there it should not be done.
The Dyad of Misapprehension and the Misapprehended (parāmāsa-parāmaṭṭha-duka) is concluded.
