[139] A phenomenon (dhamma) dissociated from mind (citta-vippayutta) is a condition for a phenomenon associated with mind (citta-sampayutta) by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya): object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta), base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
Object-prenascence: [one contemplates] the eye … the base (vatthu) as impermanent … grief arises. With the divine eye one sees a form; with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu) one hears a sound. The form base (rūpāyatana) [is a condition] for the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by eye-consciousness (cakkhu-viññāṇa); the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) … .
