Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (4) · Vol. 43 · Section 322

[322] A derived (upādā) phenomenon is a condition for a non-derived (no-upādā) phenomenon by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): [One contemplates] the eye … the body, forms, tastes … the base (vatthu) as impermanent (aniccato) … grief (domanassa) arises. One sees a form with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu); one hears a sound with the divine ear-element (dibbasotadhātu). The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa), the taste base (rasāyatana) for tongue-consciousness (jivhāviññāṇa), by object condition. The aggregates (khandhā) that are derived are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjana), by object condition. A non-derived phenomenon is a condition for a non-derived phenomenon by object condition: A gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it, relishes it, and delights in it; with that as object, lust (rāga) arises … grief arises. Formerly … From jhāna … The noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; the fruit (phala) …; Nibbāna … Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for purification (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, and for adverting, by object condition. The noble ones review the defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned; the defilements that have been suppressed …; formerly … [One contemplates] tangible objects … the aggregates that are non-derived as impermanent … grief arises. By the knowledge of penetrating others' minds (cetopariya-ñāṇa), one knows the mind (citta) of one endowed with a mind that is a non-derived phenomenon. The base of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) is a condition for the base of the infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), the base of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) for the base of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana), the tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa), by object condition. The aggregates that are non-derived are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers, for the knowledge of penetrating others' minds, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives, for the knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammupaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future, and for adverting, by object condition.
