[371] A clung-to phenomenon (upādinna dhamma) is a condition for a clung-to phenomenon by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya):
The eye … the body, clung-to forms (rūpa), odors, tastes, tangible objects, the base (vatthu) … clung-to aggregates (khandhā), as impermanent … grief (domanassa) arises.
When the wholesome and the unwholesome (kusala–akusala) have ceased, the resultant (vipāka) arises as registration (tadārammaṇa).
The clung-to form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for eye-consciousness (cakkhu-viññāṇa), the clung-to odor base (gandhāyatana) for nose-consciousness (ghāna-viññāṇa), … the tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness (kāya-viññāṇa), by object condition.
A clung-to phenomenon is a condition for a not-clung-to phenomenon (anupādinna dhamma) by object condition:
The eye … the body, clung-to forms, odors, tastes, tangible objects, the base … clung-to aggregates, as impermanent … grief arises.
With the divine eye (dibbacakkhu) one sees a clung-to form; with the knowledge penetrating the minds of others (cetopariya-ñāṇa) one knows the mind (citta) of one endowed with a clung-to mind.
Clung-to aggregates are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge penetrating the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjana), by object condition.
A not-clung-to phenomenon is a condition for a not-clung-to phenomenon by object condition:
A gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it, relishes it, and delights in it; with that as object, lust (rāga) … grief arises.
What was formerly well practiced …; from jhāna …;
The noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; the fruit (phala) …; Nibbāna ….
Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, and for adverting, by object condition.
The noble ones … the defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned … the defilements that have been suppressed … those formerly arisen …;
Not-clung-to forms … sounds … tangible objects … not-clung-to aggregates, as impermanent … grief arises.
With the divine eye one sees a not-clung-to form; with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu) one hears a sound; with the knowledge penetrating the minds of others one knows the mind of one endowed with a not-clung-to mind.
The sphere of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) is a condition for the sphere of the infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana); not-clung-to aggregates are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers, for the knowledge penetrating the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives, for the knowledge of beings faring according to their kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future, and for adverting, by object condition.
A not-clung-to phenomenon is a condition for a clung-to phenomenon by object condition:
Not-clung-to forms … sounds … tangible objects … not-clung-to aggregates, as impermanent … grief arises.
When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, the resultant arises as registration.
The sphere of the infinity of space is a condition for the sphere of the infinity of consciousness, the sphere of nothingness for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception; the not-clung-to form base is a condition for eye-consciousness, the sound base (saddāyatana) …, the tangible-object base for body-consciousness, by object condition.
