[331] A derived phenomenon (upādā dhammo) is a condition for a derived phenomenon by faculty condition (indriya-paccaya): the material life faculty (rūpa-jīvitindriya) is a condition for derived kamma-born material phenomena (kaṭattā-rūpa) by faculty condition.
The root (question) should be asked. The eye faculty (cakkhundriya) [is a condition] for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa), the body faculty (kāyindriya) … the material life faculty is a condition for non-derived kamma-born material phenomena by faculty condition.
