[637] A phenomenon with roots to be abandoned by development (bhāvanāya pahātabbahetuko dhammo) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon with roots to be abandoned by development. The three [answers] with "taking as object" (ārabbha) are similar to the dyad on [phenomena] with roots to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena-pahātabbahetuka-duka).
A phenomenon without roots to be abandoned by development is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon without roots to be abandoned by development: A gift … virtue … having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it; taking that as object, lust (rāga) without roots to be abandoned by development arises; wrong view (diṭṭhi) … doubt (vicikicchā) … grief (domanassa) without roots to be abandoned by development arises. What was formerly well practised … from jhāna … The noble ones … from the path (magga) … is a condition, by object condition, for fruition (phala), for adverting (āvajjana). The noble ones [review] the abandoned defilements (kilesa) without roots to be abandoned by development … formerly … The eye … the base (vatthu) … the aggregates (khandha) without roots to be abandoned by development, and delusion (moha) — [these] they see with insight as impermanent …; they relish and delight in [them]; taking that as object, lust without roots to be abandoned by development arises; wrong view … doubt … grief without roots to be abandoned by development arises. With the divine eye … is a condition, by object condition, for knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), for adverting, and for delusion.
A phenomenon without roots to be abandoned by development is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon with roots to be abandoned by development: A gift … virtue … … jhāna … the eye … the base … one relishes and delights in the aggregates without roots to be abandoned by development, and in delusion; taking that as object, lust with roots to be abandoned by development arises; restlessness (uddhacca) … grief with roots to be abandoned by development arises.
A phenomenon without roots to be abandoned by development is a condition, by object condition, both for a phenomenon with roots to be abandoned by development and for a phenomenon without roots to be abandoned by development: Taking as object the eye … the base … the aggregates without roots to be abandoned by development, and delusion, there arise aggregates accompanied by restlessness, and delusion.
The three [answers] having the combination as object (ghaṭanārammaṇa) should also be done.
