[644] Dependent on a phenomenon with thought (savitakka dhamma), a phenomenon with thought arises, not by root condition (na-hetupaccayā):
Dependent on one rootless (ahetuka) aggregate (khandha) with thought, three aggregates [arise]; dependent on two aggregates … At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking (ahetuka-paṭisandhikkhaṇa) … Dependent on the aggregates accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā), accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness [arises].
The remaining two questions rooted in [the phenomenon] with thought (savitakka-mūlaka) should be worked out, [as] "rootless"; there is no difference.
Dependent on a phenomenon without thought (avitakka dhamma), a phenomenon without thought arises, not by root condition:
Dependent on one rootless aggregate without thought, three aggregates [arise]; dependent on two aggregates … Dependent on rootless thought (vitakka), mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) [arises]. At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking, dependent on thought, kamma-born form (kaṭattārūpa) [arises]; dependent on thought, the base (vatthu) [arises]; dependent on the base, thought [arises].
Dependent on a phenomenon without thought, a phenomenon with thought arises, not by root condition:
Dependent on rootless thought, the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates [arise]; at the moment of rootless rebirth-linking, dependent on thought, the associated aggregates [arise]; dependent on thought, delusion accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness [arises].
Dependent on a phenomenon without thought, a phenomenon with thought and a phenomenon without thought arise, not by root condition. (Abridged.) [It is] similar to [the section on] root condition (hetu-paccaya); it should be determined as "rootless."
Dependent on a phenomenon with thought and a phenomenon without thought, a phenomenon with thought arises, not by root condition:
Dependent on one rootless aggregate with thought and on thought, three aggregates [arise]; dependent on two aggregates … At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking, dependent on one aggregate without thought and on thought, three aggregates [arise]; dependent on two aggregates … At the moment of rootless rebirth-linking, dependent on one aggregate with thought and on thought, three aggregates [arise]; dependent on two aggregates … Dependent on the aggregates accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness, and on thought, delusion accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness [arises].
The remaining two questions are similar to [those under] root condition, without difference; they should be determined as "rootless."
