[66] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is not mind (citta) is a condition for a phenomenon that is not mind by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya): object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta). Object-prenascence: [one contemplates] the eye … the base (vatthu) as impermanent … grief (domanassa) arises. One sees a form (rūpa) with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu); one hears a sound with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu). The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa), and the tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for the aggregates accompanied by body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa), by prenascence condition. Base-prenascence: the eye base (cakkhāyatana) is a condition for the aggregates accompanied by eye-consciousness; the body base (kāyāyatana) …; the base is a condition for the aggregates that are not mind by prenascence condition. A phenomenon that is not mind is a condition for a phenomenon that is mind by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence.
