[499] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is not a defilement (kilesa) is a condition for a phenomenon that is not a defilement by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya): object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
As object-prenascence: the eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) as impermanent … grief (domanassa) arises. One sees form with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), hears sound with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu). The form base (rūpāyatana) [is a condition] for eye-consciousness (cakkhu-viññāṇa); the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) … .
As base-prenascence: the base is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) that are not defilements by prenascence condition.
A phenomenon that is not a defilement is a condition for a phenomenon that is a defilement by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence.
As object-prenascence: one relishes and delights in the eye … the base; with that as object, lust (rāga) … grief arises.
As base-prenascence: the base is a condition for the defilements by prenascence condition.
A phenomenon that is not a defilement is a condition for a phenomenon that is a defilement and for a phenomenon that is not a defilement by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence.
As object-prenascence: one relishes and delights in the eye … the base; with that as object, defilements and the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates arise.
As base-prenascence: the base is a condition for the defilements and the associated aggregates by prenascence condition.
