[206] Bhikkhus, here again, a bhikkhu is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contentious talk, a maker of legal issues (adhikaraṇa) in the Saṅgha. If, in that case, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contentious talk, a maker of legal issues in the Saṅgha. Come, let us carry out an act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) against him." They carry out the act of censure against him — in accordance with Dhamma, but as an incomplete assembly (vaggā). He goes from that residence (āvāsa) to yet another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha in accordance with Dhamma but as an incomplete assembly. Come, let us carry out an act of censure against him." They carry out the act of censure against him — with a semblance of Dhamma (dhammapaṭirūpakena), and as an incomplete assembly. He goes from that residence to yet another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha with a semblance of Dhamma and as an incomplete assembly. Come, let us carry out an act of censure against him." They carry out the act of censure against him — with a semblance of Dhamma, though as a complete assembly (samaggā). He goes from that residence to yet another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha with a semblance of Dhamma though as a complete assembly. Come, let us carry out an act of censure against him." They carry out the act of censure against him — contrary to Dhamma, and as an incomplete assembly.
