[208] Bhikkhus, here again, a bhikkhu is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contentious talk, a maker of legal issues (adhikaraṇa) in the Saṅgha. If, in that case, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, is a maker of strife, a maker of quarrels, a maker of disputes, a maker of contentious talk, a maker of legal issues in the Saṅgha; come, let us carry out an act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) against him," and they carry out the act of censure against him — united, but by a semblance of Dhamma (dhammapaṭirūpakena). He goes from that residence (āvāsa) to another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha that was united but acted by a semblance of Dhamma; come, let us carry out an act of censure against him," and they carry out the act of censure against him — as a faction, contrary to Dhamma. He goes from that residence to another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha that was a faction acting contrary to Dhamma; come, let us carry out an act of censure against him," and they carry out the act of censure against him — united, but contrary to Dhamma. He goes from that residence to another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha that was united but acted contrary to Dhamma; come, let us carry out an act of censure against him," and they carry out the act of censure against him — as a faction, but in accordance with Dhamma. He goes from that residence to another residence. There too it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: "This bhikkhu, friends, has had an act of censure carried out against him by a Saṅgha that was a faction acting in accordance with Dhamma; come, let us carry out an act of censure against him," and they carry out the act of censure against him — as a faction, by a semblance of Dhamma.
