[389] When he had completed the penance (mānatta), he informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I committed one offense (āpatti) — intentional emission of semen (sañcetanikā sukkavisaṭṭhi) — concealed for one day. For that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day, I requested from the Saṅgha probation (parivāsa) of one day. The Saṅgha granted me probation of one day for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. Having completed the probation, for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day, I requested from the Saṅgha the penance of six nights. The Saṅgha granted me the penance of six nights for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. I have completed the penance. How, then, should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha rehabilitate (abbhāna) the bhikkhu Udāyī."
