Pātimokkhaṭṭhapanakkhandhaka

Vinayapiṭaka · Cūḷavagga (2) · Vol. 7 · Section 474

[474] What are the three legitimate (dhammika) suspensions of the Pātimokkha (pātimokkhaṭṭhapana)? One suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in virtue (sīlavipatti) that has a basis; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in conduct (ācāravipatti) that has a basis; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in view (diṭṭhivipatti) that has a basis. These are the three legitimate suspensions of the Pātimokkha.
