[210] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu who went on alms round, having received almsfood containing poison, brought it back to the refectory and gave the first portion (aggakārikā) to the bhikkhus. Those bhikkhus died. He was seized with remorse (kukkucca) … "What was your intention, bhikkhu?" "I did not know, Blessed One." "Bhikkhu, for one who does not know there is no offense (āpatti)." Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, intending to experiment, gave poison to another bhikkhu. That bhikkhu died. He was seized with remorse … "What was your intention, bhikkhu?" "I intended to experiment, Blessed One." "Bhikkhu, there is no offense of pārājika; there is an offense of thullaccaya."
