[211] Now at that time the bhikkhus of Āḷavī were working on the site for a dwelling (vihāravatthu). A certain bhikkhu, standing below, hoisted up a stone. The stone, poorly grasped by the bhikkhu above, fell upon the head of the bhikkhu below. That bhikkhu died. Remorse arose in him. … "There is no offense (anāpatti), bhikkhu, since it was unintentional."
Now at that time the bhikkhus of Āḷavī were working on the site for a dwelling. A certain bhikkhu, standing below, hoisted up a stone. The bhikkhu above, intending death, let the stone fall upon the head of the bhikkhu below. That bhikkhu died. Standing there binding, he fell down and died. Remorse arose in him. … "Bhikkhu, what was your intention?" "I did not intend death, Blessed One." "There is no offense, bhikkhu, for one who does not intend death."
Now at that time the bhikkhus of Āḷavī, doing building work, were binding up a scaffolding. A certain bhikkhu, intending death, said to another bhikkhu: "Friend, stand here and bind it."
