[473] In the case of one protected by her father, the father sends a bhikkhu. In the case of one protected by her mother and father, the mother and father send a bhikkhu. In the case of one protected by her brother, the brother sends a bhikkhu. In the case of one protected by her sister, the sister sends a bhikkhu. In the case of one protected by her relatives, the relatives send a bhikkhu. In the case of one protected by her clan, the members of the clan send a bhikkhu. In the case of one protected by the dhamma, her co-religionists (sahadhammikā) send a bhikkhu. In the case of one with a protector (sārakkhā), he by whom she has been taken possession of sends a bhikkhu. In the case of one subject to a penalty (saparidaṇḍā), he by whom the penalty has been laid down sends a bhikkhu, saying: "Go, venerable sir, say to the man named so-and-so: 'May she become the wife of the man named so-and-so — a wife bought with money (dhanakkītā).'" He accepts, he inquires, he brings back the reply: an offense of saṅghādisesa.
In the case of one subject to a penalty, he by whom the penalty has been laid down sends a bhikkhu, saying: "Go, venerable sir, say to the man named so-and-so: 'May she become the wife of the man named so-and-so — a wife dwelling with him by her own choice (chandavāsinī), a wife dwelling with him for the sake of wealth (bhogavāsinī), a wife dwelling with him for the sake of cloth (paṭavāsinī), a wife by the water-bowl ceremony (odapattakinī), a wife whose head-pad has been removed (obhatacumbaṭā), one who is both a slave and a wife, one who is both a servant and a wife, one carried off under the flag (dhajāhaṭā), a temporary wife (muhuttikā).'" He accepts, he inquires, he brings back the reply: an offense of saṅghādisesa.
