[1107] "Bhikkhus, for the direct knowledge (abhiññā), for the full understanding (pariññā), for the utter destruction, and for the abandoning of these five fetters pertaining to the higher world (uddhambhāgiyāni saṃyojanāni), the five powers (bala) are to be developed. Which five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the power of faith (saddhā), which culminates in the removal of lust (rāga), culminates in the removal of hatred, culminates in the removal of delusion … he develops the power of wisdom (paññā), which culminates in the removal of lust, culminates in the removal of hatred, culminates in the removal of delusion. Bhikkhus, for the direct knowledge, for the full understanding, for the utter destruction, and for the abandoning of these five fetters pertaining to the higher world, these five powers are to be developed."
