[402] "And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, developing the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), cultivating the seven factors of awakening, become one who slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the awakening factor of mindfulness, based upon seclusion (viveka), based upon dispassion (virāga), based upon cessation, maturing in release (vossagga) … he develops the awakening factor of equanimity, based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in release. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, developing the seven factors of awakening, cultivating the seven factors of awakening, becomes one who slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna."
