[824] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus (chabbaggiyā bhikkhū) walked in inhabited areas squatting on their heels. … "I shall not walk in inhabited areas squatting on my heels" — thus the training is to be undertaken.
One should not walk in inhabited areas squatting on the heels. Whatever bhikkhu, out of disrespect, walks in an inhabited area squatting on his heels commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offense (anāpatti): if it is unintentional; if he is unmindful; if he does not know; if he is ill; if he has gone to a resting place; in emergencies; if he is insane; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
