Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga · Vol. 3 · Section 410

[410] **"Whatever" (yā pana):** whoever, of whatever sort … . **"Bhikkhunī":** … . This is the bhikkhunī intended in this context. **"Fully twenty years of age" (paripuṇṇavīsativassā)** means: one who has reached twenty years. **"A maiden" (kumārībhūtā)** means: a female novice (sāmaṇerī) is what is meant. **"For two years" (dve vassāni)** means: for two twelve-month periods. **"One who has trained in the training" (sikkhitasikkhā)** means: one who has trained in the training in the six dhammas. **"Not agreed upon" (asammatā)** means: the agreement for ordination (vuṭṭhānasammuti) has not been given by means of a formal act consisting of a motion and one proclamation (ñattidutiya-kamma). **"Should ordain" (vuṭṭhāpeyya)** means: should give the full ordination (upasampadā). Thinking, "I shall ordain her," she searches for a group, or for a teacher (ācarinī), or for a bowl, or for a robe, or she agrees upon a boundary (sīmā): an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). With the motion (ñatti), a dukkaṭa; with the two proclamations of the act (kammavācā), dukkaṭas; at the conclusion of the proclamation of the act, for the preceptor (upajjhāyā) there is an offence entailing expiation (pācittiya); for the group and for the teacher there is an offence of wrong-doing.
