[182] Which phenomena (dhammā) are wholesome? On the occasion when one develops the path to rebirth in the form sphere (rūpūpapatti) — when, not percipient of form internally, one sees forms externally, limited, beautiful or ugly, and, mastering them, [thinks,] "I know, I see" — and when, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna: on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome.
Which phenomena are wholesome? On the occasion when one develops the path to rebirth in the form sphere — when, not percipient of form internally, one sees forms externally, limited, beautiful or ugly, and, mastering them, [thinks,] "I know, I see" — and when, with the stilling of thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra) … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … the fourth jhāna … the first jhāna … one enters and dwells in the fifth jhāna: on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are wholesome.
This too is eightfold (aṭṭhakkhattukaṃ).
