[71] Which, on that occasion, is exertion (paggāha)?
That which on that occasion is the mental (cetasika) arousing of energy (viriyārambha), striving, onward striving, endeavour, effort, zeal, ardour, vigour, fortitude, the state of unfaltering striving, the state of not laying down the will (chanda), the state of not laying down the task (dhura), the firm upholding of the task, energy (viriya), the faculty of energy (viriyindriya), the power of energy (viriyabala), right effort (sammāvāyāma) — this, on that occasion, is exertion.
