[959] Which phenomena (dhammā) are both clingings (upādāna) and subject to clinging (upādāniya)? Those very clingings are both clingings and subject to clinging.
Which phenomena are subject to clinging but not clingings? Setting aside the clingings, the remaining unwholesome; the wholesome in the three planes (bhūmi); the resultant (vipāka) in the three planes; the functional indeterminate (kiriyābyākata) in the three planes; and all form (rūpa) — these phenomena are subject to clinging but not clingings.
Phenomena that are not subject to clinging (anupādāniya) should not be said to be either "both clingings and subject to clinging" or "subject to clinging but not clingings."
