Ten faculties are conducive to defilement (saṅkilesika); three faculties are not conducive to defilement (asaṅkilesika); nine faculties are sometimes conducive to defilement, sometimes not conducive to defilement.
Fifteen faculties are undefiled (asaṅkiliṭṭha); the grief faculty (domanassindriya) is defiled (saṅkiliṭṭha); six faculties are sometimes defiled, sometimes undefiled.
Fifteen faculties are dissociated from defilements (kilesavippayutta); the grief faculty is associated with defilements (kilesasampayutta); six faculties are sometimes associated with defilements, sometimes dissociated from defilements.
Ten faculties should not be said to be "both defilements and conducive to defilement"; they are "conducive to defilement but not defilements." Three faculties should not be said to be either "both defilements and conducive to defilement" or "conducive to defilement but not defilements." Nine faculties should not be said to be "both defilements and conducive to defilement"; they are sometimes "conducive to defilement but not defilements," and sometimes should not be said to be "conducive to defilement but not defilements."
Fifteen faculties should not be said to be either "both defilements and defiled" or "defiled but not defilements." The grief faculty should not be said to be "both a defilement and defiled"; it is "defiled but not a defilement." Six faculties should not be said to be "both defilements and defiled"; they are sometimes "defiled but not defilements," and sometimes should not be said to be "defiled but not defilements."
