[493] "He generates zeal (chanda)": … "He makes effort": … "He arouses energy (vīriya)": … "He upholds the mind (citta)": … "He exerts himself": herein, what is right exertion (sammappadhāna)? That which is mental arousing of energy (cetasiko vīriyārambho) … right effort (sammāvāyāma), the energy factor of awakening (vīriya-sambojjhaṅga), a path factor, included in the path — this is called right exertion. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with right exertion.
