[90] Four aggregates (khandhā) are not knots (ganthā); the aggregate of volitional formations (saṅkhārakkhandha) sometimes is a knot, sometimes is not a knot. The aggregate of form (rūpakkhandha) is subject to knots (ganthaniya); four aggregates sometimes are subject to knots, sometimes are not subject to knots. The aggregate of form is dissociated from knots (ganthavippayutta); four aggregates sometimes are associated with knots (ganthasampayutta), sometimes are dissociated from knots. The aggregate of form should not be described as "both a knot and subject to knots"; it is subject to knots but not a knot. Three aggregates should not be described as "both knots and subject to knots"; sometimes they are subject to knots but not knots; sometimes they should not be described as "subject to knots but not knots." The aggregate of volitional formations sometimes is both a knot and subject to knots; sometimes is subject to knots but not a knot; sometimes should not be described either as "both a knot and subject to knots" or as "subject to knots but not a knot." The aggregate of form should not be described either as "both a knot and associated with knots" or as "associated with knots but not a knot." Three aggregates should not be described as "both knots and associated with knots"; sometimes they are associated with knots but not knots; sometimes they should not be described as "associated with knots but not knots." The aggregate of volitional formations sometimes is both a knot and associated with knots; sometimes is associated with knots but not a knot; sometimes should not be described either as "both a knot and associated with knots" or as "associated with knots but not a knot." The aggregate of form is dissociated from knots but subject to knots (ganthavippayutta-ganthaniya); four aggregates sometimes are dissociated from knots but subject to knots, sometimes are dissociated from knots and not subject to knots (ganthavippayutta-aganthaniya), and sometimes should not be described either as "dissociated from knots but subject to knots" or as "dissociated from knots and not subject to knots."
