[16] [Paravādin:] Is the person (puggala) not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense (sacchikaṭṭha-paramaṭṭha)?
[Sakavādin:] Yes.
[Paravādin:] Is the person not apprehended in all [things] in the real and ultimate sense?
[Sakavādin:] It should not be said thus.
[Paravādin:] Acknowledge the refutation (niggaha)! If the person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, then indeed, good sir, it should be said: "The person is not apprehended in all [things] in the real and ultimate sense." What you assert there — "It should indeed be said that the person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, but it should not be said that the person is not apprehended in all [things] in the real and ultimate sense" — is wrong. But if it should not be said that the person is not apprehended in all [things] in the real and ultimate sense, then indeed, good sir, it should not be said that the person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense. What you assert there — "It should indeed be said that the person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, but it should not be said that the person is not apprehended in all [things] in the real and ultimate sense" — is wrong. …
