[2] [Paravādin:] Is the person (puggala) not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense (sacchikaṭṭha-paramaṭṭha)?
[Sakavādin:] Yes.
[Paravādin:] That which is real and ultimate — is that person not apprehended therefrom in the real and ultimate sense?
[Sakavādin:] It should not be said thus.
[Paravādin:] Acknowledge the rejoinder (paṭikamma)! If the person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense, then indeed, sir, it should be said: "That which is real and ultimate — that person is not apprehended therefrom in the real and ultimate sense." What you say there — that it should indeed be said, "The person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense," but that it should not be said, "That which is real and ultimate — that person is not apprehended therefrom in the real and ultimate sense" — is wrong. But if it should not be said, "That which is real and ultimate — that person is not apprehended therefrom in the real and ultimate sense," then indeed, sir, it should not be said, "The person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense." What you say there — that it should indeed be said, "The person is not apprehended in the real and ultimate sense," but that it should not be said, "That which is real and ultimate — that person is not apprehended therefrom in the real and ultimate sense" — is wrong.
