[1057] For whomever and wherever the bodily formation (kāyasaṅkhāra) did not arise, did the verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) not arise for that one there?
For those of the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and those of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), the bodily formation did not arise for them there, but it is not the case that the verbal formation did not arise for them there. For those who have attained the fourth jhāna, for those of the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa) while the second mind (citta) is occurring, and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), for them there the bodily formation did not arise and the verbal formation did not arise.
Or else, for whomever and wherever the verbal formation did not arise, did the bodily formation not arise for that one there?
For those who have attained the second jhāna or the third jhāna, the verbal formation did not arise for them there, but it is not the case that the bodily formation did not arise for them there. For those who have attained the fourth jhāna, for those of the Pure Abodes while the second mind is occurring, and for non-percipient beings, for them there the verbal formation did not arise and the bodily formation did not arise.
