[1145] For whomever, wherever, the bodily formation (kāyasaṅkhāra) ceases, has that one's verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) ceased there?
For those who have attained the second jhāna or the third jhāna, at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of the in-breaths and out-breaths (assāsapassāsā): their bodily formation ceases there, but their verbal formation has not ceased there. For those who have attained the first jhāna and for sense-sphere beings (kāmāvacara), at the moment of dissolution of the in-breaths and out-breaths: their bodily formation ceases there, and their verbal formation has ceased.
Or else, for whomever, wherever, the verbal formation has ceased, does that one's bodily formation cease there?
For those who have attained the first jhāna and for sense-sphere beings, at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of the in-breaths and out-breaths; for those same beings, at the moment of dissolution of a mind (citta) without in-breaths and out-breaths; and for form-sphere beings (rūpāvacara) and formless-sphere beings (arūpāvacara): their verbal formation has ceased there, but their bodily formation does not cease there. For those who have attained the first jhāna and for sense-sphere beings, at the moment of dissolution of the in-breaths and out-breaths: their verbal formation has ceased there, and their bodily formation ceases.
