[1173] For whomever, wherever, the bodily formation (kāyasaṅkhāra) has ceased, will the mental formation (cittasaṅkhāra) cease for that one there?
For those in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara) at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of the final mind (pacchimacitta): their bodily formation has ceased there, but their mental formation will not cease there. For those who have attained the first jhāna, the second jhāna, or the third jhāna, and for the other sense-sphere beings: their bodily formation has ceased there and their mental formation will cease.
Or, for whomever, wherever, the mental formation will cease, has the bodily formation ceased for that one there?
For those who have attained the fourth jhāna, for beings of the form sphere (rūpāvacara), and for beings of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara): their mental formation will cease there, but their bodily formation has not ceased there. For those who have attained the first jhāna, the second jhāna, or the third jhāna, and for sense-sphere beings: their mental formation will cease there and their bodily formation has ceased.
