[1152] For whomever and wherever the bodily formation (kāyasaṅkhāra) does not cease — did the verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) of that one there not cease?
For those who have attained the first jhāna and for sense-sphere beings (kāmāvacara) at the moment of arising of the in-breaths and out-breaths (assāsa-passāsa), and for those very same beings at the moment of dissolution of the mind (citta) without in-breaths and out-breaths, and for form-sphere beings (rūpāvacara) and formless-sphere beings (arūpāvacara): the bodily formation of those beings there does not cease, but it is not the case that the verbal formation of those beings there did not cease. For those who have attained the second jhāna or the third jhāna at the moment of arising of the in-breaths and out-breaths, and for those very same beings at the moment of dissolution of the mind without in-breaths and out-breaths, for those who have attained the fourth jhāna, for beings of the Pure Abodes (suddhāvāsa) while the second mind is occurring, and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): the bodily formation of those beings there does not cease, and their verbal formation did not cease.
Or rather, for whomever and wherever the verbal formation did not cease — does the bodily formation of that one there not cease?
For those who have attained the second jhāna or the third jhāna at the moment of dissolution of the in-breaths and out-breaths: the verbal formation of those beings there did not cease, but it is not the case that the bodily formation of those beings there does not cease. For those who have attained the second jhāna or the third jhāna at the moment of arising of the in-breaths and out-breaths, and for those very same beings at the moment of dissolution of the mind without in-breaths and out-breaths, for those who have attained the fourth jhāna, for beings of the Pure Abodes while the second mind is occurring, and for non-percipient beings: the verbal formation of those beings there did not cease, and their bodily formation does not cease.
