[1157] For whomever the verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) ceases, will the mental formation (cittasaṅkhāra) of that one cease?
For those [beings], at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of the final mind (pacchimacitta) accompanied by thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra), the verbal formation ceases, but their mental formation will not cease. For the others, at the moment of the dissolution of thought and examination, their verbal formation ceases and their mental formation will cease.
Or, for whomever the mental formation will cease, does the verbal formation of that one cease?
For all [beings] at the moment of the arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of mind (citta), and at the moment of the dissolution of a mind devoid of thought and examination, and for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — the mental formation of those [beings] will cease, but their verbal formation does not cease. At the moment of the dissolution of thought and examination, their mental formation will cease and their verbal formation ceases.
