[1164] For whomever the verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) does not cease, will the mental formation (cittasaṅkhāra) of that one not cease?
For all [beings] at the moment of the arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of mind (citta); at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of a mind devoid of thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra); for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpanna); and for non-percipient beings (asaññasattā) — for these the verbal formation does not cease, yet it is not the case that for these the mental formation will not cease. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind (pacchimacitta) that is without thought-conception and without discursive thought — for these the verbal formation does not cease, and the mental formation will not cease.
Or rather, for whomever the mental formation will not cease, does the verbal formation of that one not cease?
At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind with thought-conception and with discursive thought — for these the mental formation will not cease, yet it is not the case that for these the verbal formation does not cease. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind without thought-conception and without discursive thought — for these the mental formation will not cease, and the verbal formation does not cease.
